5Level of Spanish

We cater for all levels of Spanish… just not at the same time! We’re a small school so we normally run a couple of different levels each week. If you’re not an absolute beginner, we’ll send you our level test after you book so we can plan for your course.

6Level of difficulty of walks

Walks last approximately four hours, including transport time to the starting point and back to Panes, so some days they might take a little longer, other days they might be a little shorter.

Walks on the Camino Taster Course are generally gentler than the ones on the Walk & Talk Course, as the former includes walks on El Camino del Norte, which runs alongside the coast. The walks on the latter are in more mountainous paths, although can also include a coastal walk!

We always adapt the walks to the level of fitness and ability of the group, so as long as you are reasonably fit, you shouldn't have any problems! If you have any health issues we ask you to let our guide know in confidence before you do the first walk.

The guide will assess on the first day what the group is like and plan the other walks accordingly, also taking into consideration current and forecast weather conditions, as well as the group's preferences.

Nevertheless, please be mindful that the area is mountainous and although we do have a range of flatter coastal and riverside walks, you can expect some steep bits… or very steep ones if you’re up for it!

7How does a family stay work?

If you book a family stay on a bed & breakfast basis, the family will provide your breakfast and that you’ll have access to the kitchen to cook your own food for the rest of the meals. If the family is able to and you want them to provide any more meals, you can pay for them at the end of the week in the school.
If you prefer to stay on a half-board basis, the family will provide you with breakfast and dinner. Please note Spanish meal times might differ quite a lot from your normal customs. Having dinner around 21.00 is the norm here!
Whatever basis you book in, it will give you access to laundry facilities.

We don't generally recommend absolute beginners to stay with a family. It's not a problem as we'd always be to hand to sort out any major communication breakdowns, but it is quite tough on you! Lessons and walks are in Spanish, so you get plenty of exposure to the language during the day. Also, hardly no English is spoken in the village. However, it is true that this option would give you a more "real" taste of Spain, so taking this into consideration, it's totally up to you!
